How great is it that Bill Clinton decided to go after a gay Republican strategist, calling him "self-loathing." Arthur Finkelstein is a strategist who is mounting a campaign to get Hillary Clinton out of office in her 2006 New York Senate run, to pre-empt her Presidentail bid. Finkelstein has helped conservatives, like Jesse Helms, get elected. Finkelstein also married his male partner in Massachusetts this month.
Bill opened his mouth about it yesterday: "Either this guy believes his party is not serious and is totally Machiavellian in its position, or you know, as David Brock said in his great book 'Blinded by the Right,' there's some sort of self-loathing or something. I was more sad for him."
Now, I'll be honest with you. I think Bill Clinton was the worst thing to happen to the U.S. Presidency since Andrew Jackson ordered tens of thousands of Native Americans to move west of the Mississippi in what has been called the "Trail of Tears."
And this kind of bullshit is why. He's always playing politics. Always. Virtually every piece of legislation he signed (like "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the Defense of Marriage Act) was a political move. We have no idea what Bill Clinton really believes, because he simply says what he thinks people want him to say.
And again, like the Kerry/Edwards campaign did with Mary Cheney and liberal blogs have been doing with many Republican politicians in the last couple of years, another Democrat is trying to make the sexual orientation of a Republican a political issue. If you don't agree with them on some political issues, they'll use their self-righteousness to attack you at every level they possibly can.
Bill Clinton has again sunk to the low level he operated at his entire political carreer, and that the Democrats have been exhibiting now for years. It just makes me want to keep him as far away from the White House as humanly possible.
