I was disgusted to see an email the Human Rights Campaign sent out Tuesday night declaring victory in the election. Despite the fact that anti-gay initiatives passed in Florida, Arkansas, Arizona and California, HRC said it was a victory because an anti-gay-marriage Presidential candidate, Barack Obama, WON.
HRC has become a glaring example of why we have fallen behind in the fight for equal recognition of our relationships. They put more weight in getting Obama elected than getting pro-gay legislation passed in various states. There's no other conclusion to draw from their declaration of "victory." I have talked to various gay-organization insiders, and to the person they have told me that groups like HRC are broken possibly beyond repair.
Joe Solmonese has turned HRC from a gay-rights group to a Democrat organization looking to suck pink dollars in for the Democrat party. It's no shocker: He's the former head of a Democrat PAC.
Hopefully people will begin to see how ineffective and misdirected HRC is and stop giving them money. There are other groups really doing some good; donating money to HRC is literally a complete waste of every dollar donated.
