And so last Friday evening began for me, making my appearance at the "80s Prom" birthday party of two members of my football league at Elmo in Chelsea. I decided to go as Miss Cynthia as soon as I heard about the party. The part I loved the most was seeing the faces of some of the football players in the league who knew me as simply "the league commissioner who is a Republican."
The most interesting part of the evening, though, came at the end, when I walked from Elmo at 20th & Seventh to the intersection of 23rd & Eighth. In that 12-minute walk in the rain, I saw more heads turn and hear more cat calls than I had in my previous 33 years. I suppose even in Chelsea it's not every day you see a 6-foot-6 drag queen (that's with the heels).
Funny moment when I was waiting for a cab. I noticed one guy, about 45, out of the corner of my eye. After about 20 seconds of him just staring at me, I looked over and smiled. To which he responded by pulling his jacket open to reveal he was wearing only a bra underneath it. "No thank you," was all I could think to say.
